cover: Andrew George Latta McNaughton (1887–1966) was a Canadian electrical engineer, scientist, army officer, cabinet minister, and diplomat. He was born in the Northwest Territories, in an area now part of Saskatchewan. His parents were immigrants from Scotland. After earning degrees in physics and engineering at McGill University in Montreal, he became the best known Canadian soldier during World War I. He also was the general who led the Canadian forces to Europe early in World War II, but was replaced in 1943. He later served as Canada's ambassador to the United Nations.
