Notes cover: Herbert George (H.G.) Wells (1866–1946) was an English writer, prolific in many genres: novels, short stories, social commentary, history, satire, biography, and autobiography, and even recreational war games. Now best remembered for his science fiction novels, during his lifetime he was primarily a social critic. He foresaw the advent of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons, satellite television, and something resembling the Internet's world-wide web. His science fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, invisibility, and biological engineering. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times.
