I must admit I have a chazza near me which does a regular trade in pretty good CDs, 50p a pop, and I often come out with a handful when they have new stock in - as you say, people don't seem to be interested in looking through them so much. I like to have CDs to play in the car or in the bedroom (where at the moment we have no turntable) so suits me fine!

I've picked up a few nice folky things in there and plenty of indie stuff. I live near the hippie part of town so you do get a better class of CD in the shop :-)

Unfortunately they don't do vinyl, though the other one down the road (a proper old school dump of a place), does (much of which I donated in the first place).
