Sladesounds - Having had a look at that Beatles box-set I'm thinking of entering each of the regularly available discs separately (with the notes stating that they were also part of a box-set) and then enter the box-set as a single item with disc 9 (the set-only release) as the track listing of the box-set (with the notes mentioning the other 8 releases with links in the way you have suggested).
I could then use the "Add linked release" facility to link each of the 8 individually available discs with the "Box Set".
If I do that then each of the 8 regularly available discs should display the box set as "linked" and the box set should display all of the 8 discs as "linked". This might make it easier for the casual visitor to 45Worlds to see what is going on.
I think the situation here is a bit different from The Beatles box-set as the 8 discs were brand new compilations rather than pre-existing releases. Essentially the 8 discs chronologically presented U.K. Top 20 Motown entries from 1964 to 1985, though for contractual reasons Stevie Wonder releases after 1971 were excluded.
Anyway ... I'm about to start to photo it all so watch this space.
