If you're not lost... It's not an adventure! Member since Jun 2014 3745 Points Moderator | I'm very attached to my copy of Satanic Majesties... It took me five weeks to buy it in 1992!
...It was one of those "on the wall" behind the counter in my local record shop, and I was very taken with it. I asked the chap, and he said it was £25.
This was a fortune for me then, as it was in a school summer holiday, and I was strawberry picking (supermarkets, Wimbledom etc.), and I was very bad at it, and so didn't earn much.
Got up at four in the morning every day, and walked the four miles there and back every day (for an eight mile round trip), except on Friday, where I would go to the record shop after a shift to put another fiver on the counter for the record, and I would have him play me one track from the album (I didn't want to have the whole thing played through in one go, so that I'd have a few surprises when I finally bought it outright).
It was a great day when I laid the last fiver on the counter.
Satanic Maj wasn't a fancied album at all back then, and I only played it a couple of times to be honest... not being particularly taken with it myself, except for the cover
And it's only since digging it all out of the loft, and joining this site that I've become aware that this album has "appreciated" somewhat, and discovered I have the mono 1p / p1 matrices.
But it brings back such great memories, I could never part with it now...
So I'd have to say that this £25 record is my most expensive bargain... and still my best.
