Well, if one catalogue number (of the same label) is 123456789 and the other is 123 456 789, they are identical.
I'd have to disagree there on that one, they are not identical, one thing i have learnt whilst adding CD's,is that very often, each different country writes the Cat.No. differently.i.e
123456789 is not the same as
123 456 789,or 123-456-789,or 1234 567 8 9 (similar is not identical)
these are not just typo's,this has been done purposely, they have been deliberately written that way to differentiate each countries release, and this is one thing i've been trying to get across to people, these differences indicate different releases, and in my opinion, should therefore be recorded separately, however minor the difference in the Cat.No,it's different!,these Cat.No's/secondary Cat.No's are a means of specific identification,if you were to ignore them, then you would have entries with multiple (similar) Cat.No's,with multiple unidentified (currently) images, with people trying to guess what country the entry is,and what image belongs with what, and it would get very messy, especially as each country may have two or three variants each. This is going down the line of just bunging everything together, and is,IMHO,not the way forward for a successful database.Surely better to have these CD's attributed to a specific country, what is the harm in having them separated?,it's easier to find a particular countries release that way.If you're going to bung every albums release together, then a template like Discogs currently uses is surely the only other option?,listing all worldwide releases under the album title, but still having a separate page/link to each individual countries specific release.Anyhow,i digress, but i'm all for keeping CD's individual,as they were released.
(PS I only found three duplications on Eric's page (of course i may have missed one;),and have posted corrections)
