The problem people are alluding to is not the term used to describe this function. It is the problem(s) this function creates both within the site and in the wider world. Here is the Australian issue of the Doors L.A. Woman which I entered some years ago. Here the valuation is A$67 and that may well be true for the original 1971 blue Elektra label (should be shuffled to first spot behind back cover) version. However, my images and labels are of a 1980's low budget re-issue that has the same cat# and other details. I'd estimate a mint copy of my version to be worth A$25-30. So the part of the site and great attraction to many of us - the linking of all copies of an item by cat# on the same page - creates an illusion that all copies are worth a certain value. We all know this in not the case and it is clearly evident in the link above that we not valuing apples against apples. Discogs does however differentiate releases individually and therefore are able to offer much more realistic pricing for the actual release you may have. We are unable to do this because we collate the items a completely different way and that way is what lured many of us to this site in the first place. So to some of us the valuations are an ill-conceived distraction that provide wildly inaccurate information. Unless there are plans to move into the selling marketplace that we are unaware of there is no real need to have this function. Before it arrived people would just write in the notes things like " an original blue Elektra label copy went for A$ ?" and provide a link. I really don't see any need for more than this or do we want to create a false set of high values for idiots at car boot sales and second hand shops.
