it's a work in progress, I'm sure this will happen eventually.
but I'm not so sure. Some of us have tried for years to have this issue addressed and failed.

My view is that listing CDs is in the too hard basket and will remain there for eternity. Because we have been unable to tackle this question the site will spiral out of control and most regular contributors to CD World already ignore the guidelines and list things as they please or see fit at the time. I have CDs that fit three categories of country simultaneously (country of purchase as a local release, country/region of original release and of course international. When CD World started the idea was, or seemed to be that international was the way to go as most CDs were distributed this way due to the globalisation of the music industry.

However, the theory didn't really stand up to scrutiny and many flaws in this methodology appeared as CDs from around the world were actually found to have slight differences (additional cat#s, secondary cat#s, additional distribution companies, same cat#s but different label and the list goes on). The original idea seemed to be that a CD would be entered and all the versions from around the word would be added to that listing and voila everything for that CD release would be on that page. Unfortunately, that was not the case in practise and what we have now found out is that there a lots of differences between CDs even with the same barcode or cat#.

Our inability to deal with this as a group over the years means these problems will fester and now that new LPs that are distributed the same way have overtaken global CD sales the same mess will manifest itself in our cataloging of new release LPs. This has long been a problem on this site and many of us that were trying to deal with it ever since CD World began have become very disenchanted with the lack of any realistic response from the MODS and many disputes between site users have soured what were once healthy, friendly working relationships and even caused some users to leave the site or choose not to enter CDs here.

I myself, will not for the foreseeable future enter this debate again. I hear the Admins and Mods cry "yehoo!" in cyberspace but Careys simple sensible question

deserves a better answer than the stock standard mirror man (we're looking into it) answer we constantly get from the Mods/Admins. This is pathetic cop out on all counts. No-one is looking into it and no proposals have been forthcoming from the Mods/Admins.

So, the answer to Careys question is that when the decision was made to include CDs on the site it was (perhaps mistakenly) believed classifying CDs as international might solve some issues experienced on other sites. Unfortunately, it has also created a database that can't identify CDs by country of release. I don't share Magic Marmalade's optimism that it will get sorted out eventually and have heard these kind of empty promises for years.

Just enter CDs any way you like there are no real guidelines that being adhered to and everyone that is a regular contributor to CD world seems to have their own method of entry in my experience.

If you have 1000's of spare hours you could waste them on trying to do something about this but having already done this I would suggest that it's probably much easier to look the other way and pretend everything is fine. Good luck!
