I don't own anything I haven't listened to and want to listen to again. If I don't like it it's out the door. So, definitely a listener in my case. Collectors can be listeners, hoarders, traders, speculators or super fans of one artist and suppose the list goes on so there really is no difference except some people by music for their listening pleasure and some don't or are combination of the two.
I once sold two very rare 45s in the 80's when I was a starving student. When the buyer arrived at my door, salivating and sweaty with anticipation I told him the records were both in perfect order as I had just played them to check (and record for myself if truth be known) and he said "Oh, good but I'll never play them". That's not the way I operate but some people do.
