Yeah big difference. The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu released a pile of 12" between 1987 and 1988. They were released on the label KLF Communications "The Sound of Mu(sic)". Their matrix numbers began with Jams 23T and ran until number Jams 27T. I'll upload those in due course.
I suppose the main difference is that the "band" (Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond) called themselves The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu for those releases and the matrix numbers reflect that. And with proper credit to them as artists that is what they should be called. After all it is The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu as the artists/ band named on the label.
After Jams 27T they began to call "the band " The KLF. There is one "crossover" 12" which was released in 3 versions and that is "Burn The Bastards" also released as "Burn The Beat". This was released as

The KLF (Burn The Beat) at 120bpm matrix number Jams 26T

The KLF Burn The Beat matrix number KLF 002T (Other Data "This is a transition record")

The JAMS AKA The Timelords Burn The Beat on TVT4041

This release really points to the change in the name of the "band" and various sources date this transition late 1987 to early 1988. Indeed the "Other data" on the label of KLF 002T states "This is a transition record".

The duo did return as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu later in 1991 with "It's Grim Up North" and that release returned to the Jams prefix in matrix numbers (Jams 028R) rather than a KLF matrix code.

To put it simply... the name of the band on the label is what they should be called on here. The record label is KLF Communications so there should be a clear link... whatever moniker Bill and Jimmy were using at the time!

I'll get my scanner warmed up!
