I'm setting up a Kindle Fire for a friend, and I notice that if you buy an album download or download a track you see an image of the CD on the Kindle, whereas if you rip from a CD or other recording and transfer to the kindle you see only a generic track symbol, similar to a CD Single World entry without any images. Obviously, as you've not got any images pertaining to your rip
Looking at the Kindle files, you can find folders within the 'Music' folder, containing the images, both for the Albums and the individual tracks, but I cannot see any obvious way the images are linked to the artist, album or track. These images are duplicated within different folders with random-sounding names, like '150' '270' etc
Of course all catters are handy with scanning, cropping and resizing images for CDs, and I wondered if anyone can advise how image files are linked to mp3 files in Kindles and mp3 players in general
