Various Artists - Those Wonderful Radio Years (1983)
Glad that my efforts had some use! This one certainly does look complex.

David Bowie - Let's Dance (Long Version) / Cat People (Putting Out Fire) (1983)
The second UK #1 released as a cassette single, and the first since John Lennon's Woman in 1981.

Lou Preager Featuring Paul Rich And Rita Williams - Cruising Down The River (1997)
Also issued on CD as the first in this series (CDEA). I don’t think many others were issued on tape.

Cassette Album
Bob And Alf Pearson - My Brother And I (1993)
Based on dates for other titles on the label at Discogs, this release came out in 1993/1994. The sleeve refers to an article in the Autumn 1993 issue of Evergreen magazine.

“My a Brother and I” on the opening track was originally titled “Just Like a Melody Out of the Sky” - a 1928 song by Walter Donaldson. The composers credited, Mitchell and Alter, wrote “A Melody From the Sky”, published in 1936. I’m pretty sure that “My Brother and I” was adapted from the former and not the latter.

Elton John - Something About The Way You Look Tonight / Candle In The Wind 1997 (1997)
Yes, I'd agree it must be the bestselling cassette single ever - at least in the UK. With over 5 million sold, and the only other format being CDS, it seems likely that a large chunk of sales was on tape.

There is also a red label variation manufactured by Ampex which has the WSTX number on the tape and the back cover.

Elton John - Are You Ready For Love ('79 Radio Edit) / Are You Ready For Love (Full Length 1979 Version) (2003)
I would imagine that as you could order it from shops like HMV, those few sales would have counted towards its chart performance. I'm not aware of cassette singles ever being excluded from the chart; there was no need for them to be. Record companies stopped making them and shops stopped selling them.

Elton John - Are You Ready For Love ('79 Radio Edit) / Are You Ready For Love (Full Length 1979 Version) (2003)
Actually, I've now found out that Busted's "Who's David" was on cassette, and that was February 2004, some months later. But that isn't on this site. Apparently it was limited to 100 copies, so that might explain why isn't on 45worlds yet!

Who's David on Discogs

Only around 100 copies of this tape were ever produced, as cassettes were officially discontinued from stores on November 17, 2003.
That was the day "Jump" by Girls Aloud came out.

Elton John - Are You Ready For Love ('79 Radio Edit) / Are You Ready For Love (Full Length 1979 Version) (2003)
Iggypig, thanks! That was the info I was searching for (the last cassette #1). It's currently the last UK #1 cassette single listed on this site.

I used to buy a few to play in the car, especially because they were reduced to clear at very cheap prices once they left the charts.

"Jump" isn't on here yet. But it looks like the cassette single was over in the UK by the end of 2003 if that was the last to chart.

Cassette Single
John Lennon - Woman / Beautiful Boys (1981)
The earliest UK #1 cassette single on this site. Wonder if there were any earlier? Excluding #1s that were later re-issued on cassette, like Brass in Pocket.

Cassette Single
Alex Parks - Maybe That's What It Takes / Beautiful (2003)
It seems to be the last on this site until 2013, when the format was inevitably revived in true retro fashion.
