Sides labelled "A" and "1".

The Sonnet - Perfect Sunday / Someone, Smiling, Somewhere (1998)
Another one for which I only have the cassette, no cover. The telephone number on the label suggests The Sonnet must have been from the Scarborough area.

Lithium Joe - Stolen Summer (1992)
Available with blue, green or pink inlay (I have all three - scans to follow in due course).

Cassette Single
Milkfloat - Rule And Thumb / Taste (1991)
I assume this is a demo, although the first two tracks were released as a 7" single on Clawfist Records - see 45Cat entry.

I only have the tape, no cover. The tape doesn't appear to be a Clawfist issue. Not sure whether the tracks are the same versions as the vinyl release or not.

Giantkind - Conspire/Aspire (1993)
I have two copies of this, one with a "temporary inlay sleeve" (printed black ink on white card, hand labelled tape) and one with a proper inlay and printed cassette labels. Scans coming... soon.

I saw Giantkind live, back in the day. Good band - heavily influenced by REM.

Fog - Who Pilots The Flying Saucers? (1992)
Really good tape, this. Fog were a Hull band active in the early/mid 90s and were well-known locally. I saw them live a few times and liked them a lot. Unusually they had an accordian player which was something of an oddity in Hull in them days, especially given that they weren't a folk band.

Frontman Grant Davison is still a well-known face on the local music scene, these days as a member of both The Gherkins and Humba Rumba. I've no idea what became of the other members.

Fog were immortalised in the song "Bongos For Fog" by fellow Hullies Crazy Uncle - a not entirely complimentary song, but delivered with tongue in cheek (and Fog certainly saw the funny side - the two bands shared a stage on at least one occasion).

I only have the tape for this one, no inlay unfortunately.

Waltzer - Side 1 High On Life / One In A Million (1997)
I don't think I have the cover/inlay for this one - only the tape (unless the rest shows up in another box somewhere... I still have quite a few of these to go through).

EDIT: Found it! Will scan at some point.

Nice!

Dog Muck - Dog Muck
The mind boggles... I haven't listened to this one yet but I'm guessing it might be a bit "out there" to say the least. More on this when I get the time/courage to play it!

Spinnin' Room - Demo No. II
I have two copies of this, with different artwork. (Scans to follow).

Various Artists - Playing On The Inside
There's no tracklisting or track info here, just a note on the inlay naming the artists.

I will give it a play sometime soon and see if I can figure out the playing order etc.

EDIT: Listened to the beginning but not the rest as yet so still no tracklisting, although the first track is the Purple Gang playing... "Cocaine".

Cassette Album
Various Artists - Upriver (1992)
I think this is a compilation of artists from Goole (East Yorkshire).

EDIT: Wave were Doncaster-based I believe.

Cassette Album
Various Artists - DTNA (1994)
Rare Hull dance music compilation released to raise money for anti-racist causes. Features Fila Brazillia and The Solid Doctor (aka Steve Cobby, of Fila B).

From the sleevenotes - "This compilation was inspired by the disgusting success of the BNP and their threat to stand for more council seats".

Various Artists - Stab
Philip Barnes was a well known Hull artist, musician, writer, poet and performer. He sadly passed away in 2010 at the age of 36. This tape features three of his many incarnations.

Obituary here.

The Part Time Pop Stars - Fishy
Martin Fish, for the uninitiated, was the chairman of Hull City and target of the "Fish Out" campaign (he went, eventually, thank God).

Dolan is Terry Dolan, manager of Hull City during the Martin Fish era.

Cassette Album
The Housemartins - Glastonbury 22.6.86
Clearly track 2 should be "Reverend's Revenge" and track 4 should be "Think For A Minute", and track 15 should be "I'll Be Your Shelter".

Scans to follow.

Dave Bryant - God Likes Me (1982)
Does the back of his t-shirt say, "Everyone Else Thinks I'm A Bit Of A Dick"?

The Psychotics - Don't Care About You / My Needle (1990)
I only have the cassette for this one, I don't have the inlay.

EDIT: Now got hold of a second copy, with the inlay... I'll add it here eventually.

Mr. Ed - Secret Of The Sunken Sattelite (1998)
Tape title is misspelt on the release itself, it's not my typo.

Various Artists - Tower Compilation (1986)
Compilation of Hull bands - notably including The Velvetones and The Gargoyles, both featuring members of The Housemartins and (in the case of The Velvetones) future members of The Beautiful South.

Function 1 was a well-known alternative clothes shop (where I bought numerous band t-shirts back in the day) which was originally based above the legendary Offbeat Records (part of the Chain With No Name back then)... where I also spent much pence.

Both moved to a more central location some years later, and both are now closed down.

Cassette Album
Various Artists - Children Of Jaffa! A Compilation Of 10 Scarborough Bands (1993)
With insert correcting tracklisting on inlay - Electric Jester and Hoopstick are the wrong way round on the original inlay (correct as shown here).

Tape labels say "Children Of Max".

The North Pole - 4 Track Demo (1998)
I can find out easily enough - they're both friends of mine. You might be right...

Also released on 7" vinyl but with four tracks instead of six.
