this 8 track of Pet Sounds is the original first pressing without the Pet Sounds track; Later reissues of the 8 trk included Pet Sounds. this original release is extremely hard to find and if you do you'll be lucky if it's in good shape.
Canada was introduced to 8 track systems in '70 much later than the Americans '65 date. Correction make that fall of '68 when Canada made their own 8 tracks.
That's Not Me - Mike Love vocal, with Brian Wilson fills - program 3
....as it happens the running order first played track on programs 1, 2, 3, and 4 just happen to be my favourite tracks, if you can have a favourite for such an album, they're all perfect.
Those of you who are old enough to have had in my case a 4-speaker 8-track player in the vehicle, and an 8-track recorder at home.....
(yeah I know, you're thinking, rich kid - wrong, I worked hard for the money and then splashed the cash)......when the tape was playing you could touch the select button, and it would go from program 1.....touch, program 2.....touch, program 3.....touch and program 4.....touch, and so on, but only in that order, and of course only fast forward on a home player, not the car player, and no rewind, like a cassette player.
It made for some random sounds as you flipped from program to program....great fun....
I never did buy this album on 8-track, but recorded many of the tracks from my ST 2458 album onto many of my blank (Hitachi or Ampex) 8-track mix tapes, prepared at home, which friends upon hearing would beg me to copy for them.....I of course obliged, what are ya gonna do.........??
