Vortex - The Lost Tapes Vol. 1.
(The 1985 Open The Gate alternate live demo version).
We are talking the year of 1985 when Vortex released the first EP: “Metal Bats”. By that year the band is busy writing new songs for the first full length album: “Open The Gate”. In the middle of the writing process the drummer unexpectedly disappears, while the studio has already been booked in early 1986. Soon the band finds a drummer: John B. Roffel. With all songs written, the band decides to do a pre-recording to see if the songs meet expectations.
All songs are recorded, including the extra tune “The Breath Down In His Neck” (in case a song would be turned down after the recordings).

After the recording session this tape was put on the shelf and only reappeared here this year when digitizing all Vortex tapes. Recorded at Popbureau Studio, Groningen - 25-11-1985.
Produced by Jannes de Vries.

(R.I.P. John B. Roffel: 29/09/1963 - 31/10/2017).
