Wikipedia says this album was issued on 10 September 1979; either UK United Artists was months off or they were waiting until after the album became an enormous hit in America to release it in England. It would seem the latter is the case based on the ad placed for it in the 26 January 1980 issue of Music Week.

The 18 January date checks out because of the lead single "Coward of the County" having first been issued on (roughly) the same day in the UK and the fact that all copies of the UK release feature a plug for the album.

At any rate, this album did very well in England, peaking at #7 on the UK Albums Chart; the song "Coward of the County" was his second (after "Lucille") to top the UK Singles Chart.
