I see the 1960s Beatles LPs, which were released in both formats, have been paired up as single lines in the discography. I guess that's to better show the sequence of releases, but doesn't it conflict with the usual policy? Mono and stereo have different cat numbers, so they would normally be listed independently.
I think it tends to relegate the stereo copies by hiding them. They have different sets of images and comments etc. But I guess I'm more interested in knowing what the system now is.

Well it is more likely to have a Mono copy of the first beatles LPs as the stereo's were pressed in much smaller numbers
True, except that the listings aren't restricted to first pressings, or even early pressings. I would think a copy of Hard Days Night plucked at random, is more likely to be stereo. But in any case, it's difficult to prioritise one or the other - I think they are of equal status.
Well it depends which way you look at it. The original early 60s LPs were more common in mono whereas the LPs from Sgt pepper onwards were becoming more common in stereo. However if your looking over every release from the 60s to now the stereo one is far more common as 1980s Beatles LPs in mono are rather rare

There seems to be a problem in the Beatles listings - "Beatles For Sale" appears as the Stereo version only if following Artist link for "The Beatles". The mono version - PMC1240 - does not appear in this list at all, but is present if searched for individually.
I would say mono, for the yellow & black label, as it outsold stereo until around 1968.
The catalogue went stereo a year later with the introduction of the 'boxed' labels.
Wouldn't be in favour of the listings being all on the same page. A link at the bottom as is seems perfect. No sense fixing what ain't broken.

Mono before Stereo makes more sense to me despite later 60s LPs being more common in Stereo. It fits in more with our instinct to display earlier things first. Mono and Stereo LPs may have been issued at the same time but Mono was around before Stereo, generally speaking.
Stereo and Mono LPs will always have their own individual page entries in the database. We can tweak how they are displayed if needed once the world fills up a bit and we get a clearer picture of what works well.
