I want to check out my Who “Sell Out” acetate against the released version to see if there are any differences, not having a good ear for sound differences, I would appreciate any advice as to the best way of checking. Note I do not have a copy of the released album.
I've done this before by playing the two simultaneously. It's problematic of course due to the minute differences in play speed, but if you can set up a computer stream of the commercial one, and play a copy of your acetate on the hi-fi, differences can be spotted. You'll struggle with things to do with sound quality of course, like how prominent a guitar is in the mix, but if a guitar solo is different on each, that will leap out.
Another thing I've done is play a CD and LP together, a few seconds out of phase. Set the amp so you can only hear the one which is running ahead, and when a distinctive feature is heard (a delayed word in the vocal, or a little guitar slide or something) switch the amp to the other deck and see if the same detail comes along on the other version. If not, it's a different take.

Thanks for that TopPopper, I think I mite have answered my own question, I have a Magix audio cleaning lab 3.0 deluxe that allows to import two mp3 and play both at the same time( I did a mp3 of the acetate), it should show any differences in length of track, not sure if I would be able to spot any differences in sound, I will give this a try unless someone has any other ways of checking.
Now how to get a stereo first copy of the album for nothing, so I can check.
Is the acetate mono or stereo? The mono mix has some differences on Armenia City In The Sky and Our Love Was has a different guitar solo if that's any help.

I'd say you need the record in your hand to know exactly what you're comparing your acetate with; YT, Spotify and the rest are so full of alternative takes, even re-recordings by the successors to the artist name

I did try YouTube last night, there was a stereo full version of “Sell Out” and managed to line up both and play them together (with a bit of stop start) only to find that the YouTube version did not have the “bake bean” part and different track order, the other one was a CD version which may be different from the original.
When on YouTube in the past, I would get a message that I could copy the video that I was watching through Real Player, which I have done so in the past and still have them on my computer, but last night I did not get any message when I put the cursor over the top right hand side of the video clip?.

Thanks for that nboldock, have downloaded the mono version (the stereo tracks was not in order) I now have a mp3 with stereo on one side of headphone and mono on the other side.
Quick question, how do you get a print image of screen to show how it looks on magix audio.
