I have just added my first CD album, and was reminded of a problem that I had last year when I added a few scans of CD singles. I get rainbow reflections on the disc images. They are more noticeable on discs with shiny silver labels. I have tried adjusting the light levels on my scanner, but it does not seem to help. Does anyone have scanning hints to correct this problem?

As we've said elsewhere, try putting the disc in a polythene sleeve such as a 45 polythene sleeve and then scan. Not perfect but it does generally eliminate the rainbow problem.
Scanners with an LED light source ( which is in fact a row of individual LEDs) such as newer Epsons ( I think all the V*** models have LEDs) are the worst giving multiple coloured bands that seem to fan out, and looking at your images I suspect that's what you have. Scanners with Cold Cathode tubes as the light source behave much better in this respect giving a uniform diffuse light. LEDs have the advantage of not having to warm up.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried using plastic bags, and that seems to help somewhat. I am using an Epson "V" model scanner. I have a new scanner built into a printer that I have not learned to use yet. But it has a smaller scanning bed, and it is also an Epson :(( I bought it because it is supposed to print CD disk labels.
