As a break from uploading D_T_F's LP images, I've decided to start entering my own CD albums at last. I'm just uploading the entries themselves at the moment, with scans to follow.
And here's my question: given that an awful lot of CD albums have booklets which can be 12, 16 or even 24 pages, is it worth scanning it all, or will simply front, back, inlay and disc be enough?

I just do the man distinguishing features, that would help identify it, front scans only that merely inform about inserts, booklets ( when as separate object), disc, and back...
I also scan at smaller sizing than vinyl album covers, as, having browsed the net (among which is ebay and amazon) I've seen a lot of CDs which are clearly copies being sold as the real thing, so I don't want to assist in providing full size-quality scans of everything.
So do the front cover (I go for about 600 pixels, same with the back, one scan of the front of a booklet, and if it's a fold out pamphlet, or advertising piece, just one side, and finally the disc...
Just want people to know what it looks like, what whatever came with it looks like, so they know should they come across it in a shop or bootfair, and if it's complete.

Personally I do the whole booklet and any inserts the same as I do with cassettes, 45s and LPs. The main reason being not all cds came with the same booklets/inserts.

I'm doing the front covers for starters, and sometimes back of booklet, and then occasionally other scans, and then yet more occasionally the whole set.
My plan is that I can add other pages "at some point" in the future as I go along.
The site is still in its infancy. I think adding the main images is adequate, and gradually over the years, more and more images will be added. It's great to have the whole lot, but it needn't be in one go.

My thoughts exactly. We will get there... one day!
One thing I do think will happen is that hardcore fans of specific artists will arrive and want to fill in the blanks. So if there is an entry for, say, a Who CD, then at some stage a hardcore Who fan will put a load more scans on. Over time, the site will accumulate and accumulate.

Although I try for the "quality" entry rather just "quantity" the scanning of every booklet page based on the size of my collection is turning into a lifetime commitment.
I agree with the others that it is each to their own however at this stage I think that if you are entering an cd besides the full details, a decent scan of the front/back of the booklet, tray artwork and disc should be submitted if you have access to a scanner.
As Nick & TP said, more images will be added as time goes on especially by a user that has a soft spot for a particular artist/album (already expanded some other entries myself).

I also agree with this.
We may even have problems in the future if we display lyrics but given the flood of dodgy lyric websites I hope we aren't targeted.

I would hope that it would be seen that we are displaying lyrics as part of a booklet, and that they lyrics themselves aren't WHY we are showing them... if you see what I mean.

As far as lyrics go you could say the same for 45cat when the lyrics are printed on the back of picture sleeves, also cassette inlays and gatefold lps.
