I saw one recently like that:

"record has crack, may be repairable"

I find it amusing when some sellers use the old 78 grading system for other record formats, sometimes resulting in grades such as "V+".

It's not just "very", it's "very plus". Extra "very", one might say.

It's amazing how many gradings of records are base on visual appearance, and not through actual listening, that is: audio.

I've picked up a few Beatles singles this past month or two at the booty fairs (Just seem to have a knack for finding them like I'm a Beatle magnet or something (sadly not as far as albums go though)). Some look good, but play terribly, others look like someone tried to use scrub the outside wall of their house with, but sound great... so I would venture to suggest a kind of animal hide equivalent audio grading system:

5: A smooth beast, all music, no fuzz
4: Suede, a little fuzz, but no impediment to the music.
3: Mogwai, a covering of short hair, fluffy sounding, but not yet entirely unpleasant
4: Poodle: A mass of curly hair that entirely distorts the shape of the animal
5: Cousin It, What the F...

Or maybe a reference to the visual... If I said this record sounds positively Cubist, you'd be given to understand that it's all ungodly angles and pops and clicks and spasms that leaves you wondering just what on earth the original subject was!

Just seen a brilliant one online for a 78 with multiple cracks so theres a huge chunk that looks ready to fall out however grading reads:

"WAX : MINT- / EXCEPT IT IS CRACKED

COVER: NICE - NO ISSUES"

I like that.

"It's mint apart from all the scratches, the blob of glue on the playing surface and the missing chunk of vinyl. Oh and the love letter scratched into the label. Aside from all that it's like new!"

By contrast, I just bought an album from the well-known EIL Records, described IIRC as "vgc but slight imperfection on the spline of the sleeve"
When it arrived in its PVC wallet it was completely indistinguishable from brand-new-like-issued-last-week condition - how meticulous is that!

Always nice when something like that happens.
