Went up to London today, stopping by Hanway Street for its two fab record shops. Both gone. One of them was a hairdresser or something.
Down on Berwick Street, the three main shops are all hanging in there, but Sister Ray has moved across the street and shrunk. Still got some goodies though - a few will be appearing on the worlds in due course...
I remember back in the 70's when I popped into London, there was (don't know if still is!) an office for the 'Blues and Soul' magazine, and they had some records for sale there, I got 'Hawaii Five-0' by The Ventures on the (USA) United Artist label, The black one with a logo of a car splashed across. Some back mags, other records I can't remember what it was. Happy Days!! There was also a shop in Tottenham Court Road,
I got a couple of records from, I think it was called 'Stern'? Got an EP By Cliff and the Shadows called 'Dream'.
Thanks to TheJudge, The 78 rpm sleeve shown (www.britishrecordshoparchive.org/sterns) would probably be that shop, not the african record shop.
It did mention Sterns Electrical Supplies on there and Sterns Radio on that 78 sleeve.
