Just been given a box of approx. 100 78s by my dad that were my Grans before him, looking forward to going through them and seeing if theres anything special in there.

Will be checking the database but the first one I pulled out was from 1925 (Black Dyke Mills Band)

See you around.

I'm reboxing them and checking as I go and hardly any of what I have are in the database, unfortunately I don't have time to catalogue them so might have to do a few at a time.

Just pulled one out that judging by the catalogue number and subsequent dates is from 1902, Gramophone Concert Record GC 1327.

That'll be the earliest one I have.

First thing, get some strong shelves, can't believe how heavy these things are.

A little bit later - probably released in Dec 1906, so recorded a little earlier. These records don't have numbers in strict sequence; 1xxx means its a spoken recording, 2xxx is male vocal, 3xxx is female vocal, and so on.

Seconded. I have two boxes of 100 or so and between the two, must be close to 100 lbs.

If Ghostly is still on here , and I get 10mins and a Fast laptop/BB connection, I am happy to pop over and at least populate collection pages if the yorkshire area is Pennine yorkshire. If someone can de-grease and clean a 1970s stereo I can donate that to him to play them on too ( An HMV badged one from memory - with socket outputs to feed a laptop soundcard too )
