Hi there everyone. Happy New Year. I recently bought a collection of 78's which I'm looking forward to spinning on a custom plinthed Lenco GL75 that I'm building but to fund that project I'm selling a few. After going through the collection one plate keeps drawing me a blank.
Decca F. 7181 - Sowande and His Music - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes / Oh, Lady Be Good. I can't for the life of me find any information on the internet regarding this record, anywhere and I'm amazed. Can anyone please shed some light on it. I was attempting to get some guide to it's price before putting it on Ebay.
Any help would be very much appreciated. regards, Lucas

Can't help with the record itself, but there's quite an interesting article on Wikipedia about Fela Sowande himself. He was quite an interesting man http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fela_Sowande
Just perusing the other Decca 78 releases on the site would date this as sometime in 1939, which makes sense in light of the information in the two articles above.
Thank you Trainman, that's a great help. I've perused Wiki and he is a character indeed. The record came with another which unfortunately has a hairline crack in it but it's a very common one, luckily, it seems.

One thing that is fairly apparent is that organ music used to be much more popular than it is now. This record represents one segment of the organ music world that is still supported by a certain community of followers: the theater organ. The biggest trick in the world being to match up what you have to sell with someone who really wants to buy it, I would suggest you start by looking for a local theater organ and seeing if there is a support group associated with it. Of course, you can try a similar tactic on the internet to cast a wider net.
