Sparky and I did some junk-store visits yesterday, and I found a small stash of mostly junk records. But, what is interesting is the junk I found on the Micro label: Micro. From what I can tell it was a knock off label here in Canada that sold its wares for 69 cents - with 4 or 6 tracks on a 78 rpm EP.

Even cooler than that is that it appears to be related to a Cameo label that we had no info on Cameo. I had previously found on record on Cameo but had no country for it. Yesterday, I found another that specifically says 'Printed in Canada' (with printed being an odd word in this context).

Cameo/ Micro look to have sourced their content from the Kentucky label: Kentucky.

There is also the opinion that whole lot maybe related the the UK Solitaire label: Solitaire based on similarities between it and Cameo!

The records themselves are rubbish .. low volume and performances not much better .. but the info gleaned from connecting the dots makes up for that.

What I think is really need is the fact that via our collaborative international efforts we are building this great store of knowledge and helping to preserve our record history!

A quickie revisit to this thread -- managed to find a company sleeve for these buggers, further confirming the Canadian-ness of this label.

The sleeve is of much better quality than the records themselves!

Wow -- another bit of mystery solved on this weird label. Apparently its parent was was a company called Recordisc (London) Ltd and had a companion mailorder label called Top Hits of the Month Record Club. (Canada) and (UK)

This is a mini bio of it:

This label was apparently started in the UK by Manuel Kopelman who retail his disk for 13/6. As a label for sound alike version of hits, it appears to be related to the Cameo (Canada and Solatiare (UK). As with the Top of the Pops LPs of the 60s and 70s it was home to at least one big star in his first day, that being Matt Monroe

Which is how I came to discover that I now own a copy of the hitherto undiscovered Canadian pressing of Matt Monro's first recording

That blog is an unusually beautiful website, it would be nice if you would update the 45cat biog of Monro and also include a link to the website
http://www.45cat.com/biography/matt-monro

btw I notice we have a couple of Al Jordan on 45cat, I presume unrelated
