Wonder what would happen if everyone declared a ten year morotorium on sequels, remakes, spin offs and franchises?

The end of modern culture?

Maybe an Orson Welles inspired multi-media production?

From BBC link:
Quote:
The copyright on the original, which was published in book form in 1898, lasts until 31 December 2016

Really?
This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published before January 1, 1923. The author died in 1946, so this work is also in the public domain in countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 60 years or less

Yes,

"Under the 1995 Regulations [...] the period of author's copyright was further extended, to the lifetime of the author and 70 years thereafter. Those regulations were retrospective..."

If only everyone got paid a royalty for work they did years ago.

Maybe all labour should be subject to copyright in this way

The Neurosurgeon instructs his patient that every time he thinks from now on, that's a penny the good doctor's way.
(Subject to the terms under which one can thereafter use one's brain, and the specific thoughts one maybe permitted to have).

...Sounds like good sci-fi story to me!
