Should albums still be linked if a release has the same track listing but in a different order, on releases from other countries? Or should each different order track listing have its own group of linked releases? I hesitate before linking albums if the order has been changed.

And what about international variants where the title has been changed but the contents are the same?

Yes! If it is the same album but perhaps with an alternative track listing, maybe a change of cat#, an added track or other variant but basically the same album then link them. The same applies to international variants where the title has been changed for a particular country.

The idea of the link of the albums is to allow users to see the variants that exist for a given artist/release.

A good example is PMC 1202 which you will see has nearly 50 linked releases from different countries with some different sleeves etc.

Thanks for confirming. I see that there are versions of that Beatles album with a new title in different countries.

Also, do variants such as this merit separate entries, rather than just being added to the original one? I guess so, because you can only have one track list per entry so a new track listing would generate a new entry, as on 45cat when the b-side was changed.
NSPL 18171

I've linked the original pressing of the LP, which has had a track replaced.

This is Complete Madness and the Australian and some other issues have a different tracklists but are essentially the same album. I have linked my Australian album to the UK original which has In The City as track B6 but the Australian edition has Driving In My Car as B6. Stiff records were notorious for this and the Australian editions of New Boots And Panties and My Aim Is True also contain singles not on the UK original release. However, these were the versions of the original album that were released in Australia usually 6 months behind the UK release and singles released in the interim were often added on. Should these albums not be linked given the discussion preceding this comment?

I would say so, yes.

Lee yes they should (IMHO) be linked.
There are variations but as you say the album is basically the same album.

i've linked all versions of dusty springfield's golden hits album to the uk original, philips BL 7737, SBL 7737 (stereo), which they all follow save the merkin - which drops one track, rearranges the rest and adds a track not on the original - and the xxxxian, which follows the original on its sleeve, but the merkin version on its labels...

(the somewhat later merkin stereo version drops a further two tracks for no apparent reason.)

so long as the changes are noted, and they remain small enough for the albums to still be recognisably different record co.s'/sales territories' versions of the same lp, link 'em.

Is it possible create an entry for a stereo version when the mono already exists without having to enter all of the song data again? I have looked but can't seem to find a way. I want to link two albums but really can't face all that typing again.

You do need to type the details in I'm afraid, but if you open two windows (one with the existing entry, one with a new entry) you can flick between them (or tile them side by side) and copy and paste from one to the other. Not perfect but a definite time saver. Remember to check for small variations such as different spellings etc.
