the Decca World Of series needs to have a separate link in the U.K. Decca listings like the Stereo Phase 4 and Eclipse series, etc

update: I have made an official request for the change using the 'make correction'

"World of...." might be tagged as a series, but covers and explicitly labels are just "Decca"

Yes, but what I mean is that when you put Decca in the search box it also brings up 'see also' and the quick links to different series in the U.K. Decca lp range, the World Of series which has different cat. no. system to the main series like Stereo Phase 4, Nova and Eclipse for example should also be added to the 'see also'

It's an interesting thought. The difference between them as I see it is that the "World Of..." series was just that - a series and not a label. The others have - for want of a better way of putting it - their own logos and identities, which the "World Of..." series does not.

One possible way through would be for the "World Of..." series to be given its own sub-section within Decca UK, rather like the way that UK Columbia singles (to give on example) are sorted at 45cat (e.g.). I'll see what the other mods think.

i agree with 7226power: the decca group's the world of ~ was in effect a sub-label, with its own pricemark that decca could and sometimes did vary quite independently of all its other lines - it compares in most ways with emi's music for pleasure label (after they bought out paul hamlyn's 50%), and pye records' marble arch label (albums on which might wear the label guise of their origins, but the marble arch-prefixed cat#s).

All that needs to be done is to use the 'see also' or 'jump to' that U.K. Columbia singles uses, as TheJudge suggests or His Master's Voice singles/e.p.'s uses for a searcher looking for the different series on that label

The reason I brought up this topic is I have a few World Of's to add and with 520 lp's already added it would be quicker to use a 'see also' which has been done for other Decca lp series

wether each series has its own seperate logo next to the Decca parent logo or not, it's still a seperate series, others that need a 'see also' are the small 'Roots Of', 'Remembering' and 'Focus On' series that have different cat. no.'s to the main Decca lp cat. no.'s which were LK, SKL and later on TXS

Just to let you know that this is still under discussion amongst the mods. I'll get back to you as soon as we've reached a decision.

Right! Here's the result of our deliberations:

Although technically feasible, setting up a sub-group isn't advised. It would need a custom sort to be done (and maintained) manually, which isn't feasible in practical terms for a label of Decca UK's size. Similarly, as The World Of... is - as I said before - a series not a label, we can't see any justification for separating it out in the way that Nova, Eclipse, Phase 4, etc. have been.

The World Of... entries (and, within that, the World Of Hits entries) are, however, collected under tags which can be searched using the tag browser, e.g.

http://www.45worlds.com/45worlds/45w_metadata_value.php?dv=The+World+Of+...
http://www.45worlds.com/45worlds/45w_metadata_value.php?dv=The+World+Of+Hits

Anyone adding a new LP in either (or both) category/-ies should use the 'Add Tag' feature once the entry is 'live' to make sure that it's added to that/those particular tag list(s).

sounds good... atleast there's some sort of seperate identity with a tag

Decca has many series and as the additions grow, more will have to be tagged

To add to the fun, I just added a Canadian pressing of The World of George Formby on London SPA.142.
