I had trouble uploading some images earlier. They wouldn't upload, I kept getting 'image error' etc. The problem resolved itself when I resized them to be smaller. I suspect that the automatic resizing has its limits, as these scans were 1-10MB.
The guide to adding images says "You don't need to resize your image before adding it: 45worlds will automatically resize the image if required."
This quite clearly isn't true. I just tried adding a 23MB image and it failed to upload.
After several attempts, I got this error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 209715200 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20248 bytes) in /home/worlds45/domains/45worlds.com/public_html/45worlds/45w_inc_cont_image_new2_p.php on line 445

Hi TMG I am not sure what you are doing with your images but you get the error because they are massively oversized? For instance a quick search of my archive reveals the largest recent file I uploaded was only just over 4MB with a 300 px/inch resolution. 23MB is way too big like a RAW image file?
The error msg shows you that the max size of the file exceeded the DB memory allocation (26MB)
What is your method of saving these files?

I think the 'resize' in the Guide refers to the dimensions of the image rather than the file size. As cos says, 23MB is really large for an image file, and you can only submit jpg/jpegs anyway.

Mr. T - You are successfully cropping and rotating all your images, so what image editing s/w do you use? It will have the option to resize your images. Out of old habit I resize mine to 800×800 bits maximum for most items, or 1600×1600 where I want to preserve fine detail

ok I dont have first hand knowledge of Paint.net as I use either use photoshop or gimp.
However as Jules says you are producing decent images so what I think you need for example your label scans, when you get to the final stage after completing all your editing, try doing a square crop on the final image. For example I square crop all my images at 2000 px X 2000 px and then save the file as Jpg (med or high quality). The resulting file should have a size of less than 4MB.
It's sheet music scans I'm trying to upload, not records. I think it may be because I scanned them at 600dpi, rather than the usual 300dpi. It is 5062 (width) x 6560 (height). Sheet music is obviously rectangular rather than square. I changed the width to 2000 and let Paint.net adjust the height accordingly, and when I saved the resultant file, it was 5.69MB. The item is here. So I suspect that images do need to be resized, in terms of width and height - I haven't done that for ages, as I didn't think it was necessary any more. Simply reducing the file size didn't seem to have any effect. This should surely be mentioned in the guide to adding images?
Incidentally, if I try to add the full-size scan of another piece of sheet music (15.6MB in total), I get this message:
Quote:
IMAGE ERROR
✘ The image was not added: couldn't upload the file.
It's 5837 x 7341, so I again changed the width to 2000 and let the program adjust the height accordingly. It then saved as a 4.6MB file, and successfully uploaded here.

Well you have actually successfully worked it out anyway. To make the images slightly less sizeable consider using 2000px as the max Long size for sheet music and let Paint automatically resize the width. The result will be smaller but still a good image. I tend to think that 300 dpi is more than enough for most scans.
True - I was at the library using the large scanner to do a 78, and I thought I’d do that at 600dpi for better quality. That uploaded here without any problem (without resizing), maybe because the label size is much smaller than a piece of sheet music.
