I've been running into problems trying to correctly enter modern reissues on the Parlophone label. There are a number of concerns here and it seems I'm not the only one that is having difficulty with EU made Parlophone reissues. Discogs for instance has three separate entries for the 2014 reissue of Syd Barrett's Barrett one on Parlophone one on Harvest and is the EU issue indeed the USA issue making it International. These listings are of course all the very same EU made copy the album and all of the linked entries are technically correct in one way or another.

More of a problem is that all of the modern EU made Parlophone (+ boutique label) are distributed to the USA and Canada and sold as local copies in both markets. I have several of these and used to list them as EU releases for ease of entry and avoiding listing them as international and having to defend my decision. However, we are in danger of having a slew of multiple entries like Discogs has unless we agree to a method of listing these. As I see it we have several options and I'll use the linked issue of Barrett as an example we can list them as:

1. EU (Country) Harvest (Label)
2. EU (Country) Parlophone (Label)
3. EU (Country) Harvest / Parlophone (Label)
4. International (Country) Harvest (Label)
5. International (Country) Parlophone (Label)
or
6. International (Country) Harvest / Parlophone (Label)

My feeling is that option 4. International (Country) Harvest (Label) is probably the most factually correct option but it doesn't sit well with me at the moment. So I'm torn between that option and number 1. EU (Country) Harvest (Label). This is mainly because I don't like site users having to make decisions based on information that is not on the article at hand ie. international release information. It is also important to note that this applies to ALL recent Parlophone reissues and not just the one album I'm using as an example here.

Any ideas?

Hi Lee, if we're talking about vinyl, my feeling is that the vast majority of reissues are International, and tend to be made in either USA, Germany or the Czech Republic. I think you would be hard pressed to find an Australian pressing amongst all the vinyl that JB HiFi stocks, for instance, but they source those through the local branches of the majors. There are exceptions, like the recent massive Bob Dylan Live 1966 CD collection, where selected concerts were released on vinyl in designated markets, e.g. Live in Sydney was released only in Australia, but still made in Europe, and there is no text anywhere on the package to indicate that it is only released in Australia. By the same token, other vinyl releases don't say that they are only available in the country of manufacture either, same as with internationally-distributed CD's.

Hi Lee and Phil,

I tend to go along the lines of Phil, as pointed out we really don't know the extent worldwide for 99% of the re-issues.

For simplicity why not list them as "International", then in the Notes have "Released in Australia [date]".

As for vinyl albums it doesn't worry me as I haven't purchased any re-issues.

The_Vinyl_Junkie, I am specifically talking about vinyl albums here and that's why I posted the original comment in the Vinyl Albums section of the forum. Now even though I do live in Australia I generally don't buy new vinyl albums here I buy them in the USA and have them shipped - mainly because it works out to be two thirds of the cost of buying an album in Australia. So most of my new albums are local USA stock where-ever they are made and the Australian situation regarding local stock here I'm not conversant with other than that I know one company has a monopoly on the market and that's why prices are so high. Yes, I do also know that almost everything for sale here was made in either the USA or EU.

This is all by the by though because my real concern was about Parlophone / Harvest debacle and how to list those records that I've provided links to in my opening comment. Since this morning I've changed my mind and think they should be listed as Parlophone / Harvest like I did with this other Syd Barrett album I uploaded earlier this year. I note that that album should also be made international because as I said before I bought from the USA and the EU made release is the USA release.

Hi Lee, The entry you have referred to is the way to go for your vinyl albums.

A Perth retailer that I buy my new material from doesn't use the Aussie wholesaler(s) for stock but gets them direct from overseas and retails at a competitive price to overseas. I can buy "off the shelf" for equal to or marginally cheaper than importing from overseas myself.

Thanks to The_Vinyl_Junkie for putting me straight on these Parlophone reissues. It does open the door for a raft of duplicate entries though when the correct way to enter an album is like this {International (Country) Parlophone / Harvest (Label)} rather than what appears on the record EU (Country) and Harvest (Label). It does however fit with how some minor labels are listed on the site ie. Rhino and Music On Vinyl the last one being a case where label facsimile label is actually Parlophone but the label is actually Music On Vinyl.

Nothing seems to be is as it would first appear these days. Thanks again for the help VJ.
