These cassettes were my education on the Beatles, and I therefore learned the albums with the tracks in these orders. It's incredibly difficult to unlearn - to this day, I still think of "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" as belonging towards the end of the White Album.

IIRC eight-track tapes also suffered from this, to ensure the "sides" ended up roughly the same length... :sideways:

The re-ordering of the Beatles' cassettes was a result of the same process for eight-tracks. It's understandable that the cartridges needed playing times of roughly the same length, which was done. Then when the cassettes were issued, they kept the same sequences as the eight-tracks. I guess EMI figured it would guarantee the two sides would be about equal.
