Apologies to all if this has been asked before, but I'm uncertain whether to put new listings for promotional CD album samplers in "CD Singles" or "CD Albums". Does it simply come down to the number of tracks on the CD ? Or do they count as albums, because that's what they're intended to promote?
Personally, I treat them as CD singles, as they typically have about 4 or 5 tracks, but would appreciate some guidance so far as 45worlds is concerned. I have several to add, (among about 800 unlisted CD singles - oh Lord, why do we do this?), so want to get it right from the start.
If it's an album sampler with 4 or 5 tracks I would put that in CD Albums and select the Promo Only option. If it's a single promoting an album (typically 1 or 2 songs) I would put that in CD Singles and select Promo Only again for the entry. The only problem that arises is Promo only items tend not to come with Barcodes. It's a kind of "suck it and see" decision. Either way our friendly mods are about to correct any errors
I'm asking about CDs which specifically describe themselves as "album samplers". A "1 or 2" track promo CD almost never describes itself as such, so those aren't really the issue. I'm particularly asking about cut-down albums, issued for promotional use which have an ambiguous number of tracks, so far as single/album classification is concerned. For instance, I just ran into a 7 track sampler from a 37-track album. Neither fish nor fowl ?
As for relying on the mods, well that's OK up to a point. However, it creates unnecessary workload for them, if there is an established "rule of thumb", plus they don't always get it right (they're human after all), so better to get it right first time, if at all possible.
