Peace Of Mind also came from one of those bootleg tapes I bought at the Pitt Student Union.(which, by the way, was used as part of the set for a T.V. movie starring Fritz Weaver and Anne Bancroft. They used one of the ballrooms inside for a fancy ball where my future ex-fiance played the part of an Indian dignitary's wife in that scene! If you blink, you missed her! They shot that scene around 10:00 p.m..). Although this SOUNDS a lot like The Beatles, I've heard rumours that it was some of The Bee Gees with Glen Campbell and a few others pretending to sound like The Beatles. I just can't hear it!! It doesn't sound a thing like The Bee Gees!! Until I know who it really was, I'll continue listing it as The Beatles.
As for this track by The Deep Six, what a great track!! Again, it just found its way into my collection! And I'm glad it did!! For some reason, there's just one line in the lyrics I've never been able to understand!! Right after they sing about the second thing the fish gave him and before they sing the chorus that last time.
Cellophane Symphony is the title track from the Shondells' album after Crimson & Clover. Some of their psych is pretty good, some of it's kinda cheesy. This is one of the better ones. (My guitarist used to date one of George Magura's daughters. He sometimes used the last name, Tomsco. It's short for Tom's Co..)
The Clergy Lies comes from, what I figure, is a pretty hard album to come by! I've only ever seen 3 copies. My first, I got from my uncle's thrift store in the early `70's. I'd never heard of it before and it looked like someone repeatedly beat the actual record with a very tiny ball-peened hammer!! There were a couple dozen dents in the record near the edge. It also had no cover so, I had no idea what to look for when I was trying to get a good copy. One eventually showed up about 25 years ago. I knew who The McCoys were, which is why I grabbed that beat up copy but, I had no idea they were ever on Mercury or that they did psych!!
And, for a short while, we hit a stretch of classic tracks!! I prefer to use the full length album cuts as much as possible so, that's what I'm using for the next handful of songs!
