Keeping very strange hours the past few days (staying awake for at least 30 hours a day),made me miss posting this one last night, too!
The second song here, "Mind Flowers", IMMEDIATELY became part of the small collection of psych tunes that I call, "Mind Fuckers". I doubt there's even a dozen of them, so far. I bought their first album back in the `80's, I think and, although it played well, it had a deep scratch in part of it. at first, I wasn't a big fan of the album but, when I played it again a decade later looking for stuff for this project, I ended up culling at least half of it. Back in the `70's, someone gave me a huge stack of promo singles they got from a radio station and there was a single in the collection by these guys but, it was not at all psychedelic. Almost disco!! (Sorry, I didn't mean to use a dirty word, here.) I don't think the 2nd album was as good as the first but, like with this song, it had moments!! Their third album sucked. It was too `70's!!
Quill, a band from Boston that wasn't banned in Boston, opened day 2 at Woodstock. i never heard of them until I found their album in the cut-out bin at Kmart!! another album I bought in the blind based on the lengths of the songs and the cover. My fave song on the album has always been, 'They Live The Life" which is one of the 3 or 4 songs they played at Woodstock. I'd COMPLETELY forgotten about this song being on the album until about 10 years ago and practically tossed iit into this slot in the project as soon as I rediscovered it!! I'm not even sure if it even made it onto the Psych Demos!!
Why The Beatles never released this version of "Circles" or George's other fantastic psych offering from the white album, "Not Guilty", I'll probably never know!! In my opinion, George was doing WAY more psych stuff than John and Paul combined!!
I've NEVER been a fan of The Dreadful Great and I guess I'll never understand why so many hippies and acid heads think that this country rock band is so heavily psychedelic!! I can only guess it's to do with the drugs they take before going to se these guys!! Even at Woodstock, Chip Monck introduces them as the greatest rock and roll band in the world!! Really?? How do you figure?? One thing I can say for the band is that they made one of the best psych album covers I've ever seen!! That's the ONLY reason I bought this album about 10 years ago!! It's not even an original pressing!! Looks like it's from at least the mid `80's. Luckily, when I listened to it to se what all the fuss was about, I found this track on it and decided to include it into this project. Since then, I've ACTUALLY found at least 6 other tracks that'll be included somewhere in the project!! And this starts another very short section of what COULD be called, "the weird stuff".
There are several tracks I've picked up over the last few decades that have no title or artist name.
"Overture" comes from an unreleased Tangerine Dream project where they were asked to do the soundtrack to a play about Oedipus Rex. There are at least 3 different recordings of this track but I seriously doubt I'll use more than this one, here. I THINK this one came from the Virgin sampler album called, "V".
I'm not sure where this Pink Floyd track came from or who "Steven" is that Roger keeps whispering to but, I found this video on YT a decade ago and it shows them are playing this piece in a pink room. There'll a few other unreleased Floyd gems in this project the future.
I'm pretty sure the next two tracks are more 'advertisements" for LSD and/or psychedelic movies of the era.
