I started archiving mine and dad's 78's back in the late `70's (probably late `78!) after I got my first stereo cassette recorder that summer. I got close to 100 hours done when life and other projects got in the way and I also ended up with a few thousand more 78's.
4 years ago, thanks to my evil, greedy ex-sisters, I lost my house and at least 2000 of my 78's!! BUT, I still have a list of at least all the ones I recorded! So, it occurred to me 2 days ago that, as I've got that site and YT, I could try to recapture most of those recordings so I can listen to them again when I get my urges to listen to 78's!
But, so far, I've only gone trough the top 20 in my list of the 78's that I own (or, at least, owned) last night and ran across 3 that I can't find online anywhere.
ABBEY / 15003 / LAWRENCE (PIANO ROLL) COOK HIS "PLAYER PIANO" & ORCH. SUNG BY THE JIM DANDIES / WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SAY "NO"?
ABC-PARAMOUNT / 78-10018 / LLOYD PRICE AND HIS ORCHESTRA / PERSONALITY / HAVE YOU EVER HAD THE BLUES
ALADDIN / 3114 / MAXWELL DAVIS WITH RHYTHM ACCOMPANIMENT / HEY GOOD LOOKIN'
On 2 of these, I found the A-side but not the B-side, for some reason.
Sadly, even if I DO still have copies off these, I have nothing here to play them on, at the moment. My stereo and all of my records are still in storage. I have no room here for any of them, right now and, there's a chance I'm gonna also lose THIS house to my greedy cousins in 2 weeks!!
Anyway, does anyone know of another site where I can find this stuff for the collection? Or, if you've got any of the ones I'm missing, sending me MP3's of them would be a groove!
For now, anything I'm missing, I guess I'll just have to take recordings (45's or CD's) of until I can find the actual 78 recordings. You know how they love to do remixes and all this other junk to these old records. I just want them the way they sounded via the original 78's. I don't mind a bit of 78's hiss, in a way, I prefer it! It let's me know I'm listening to a 78! But, the cleaner the original recording, the better. Like, if you've got two copies and one sounds better than the other, I'll take the cleaner one.
