Can we please have the two listings for this one venue merged please?

Hi Guys,
Bilston is a town in the West Midlands (the venue is actually now called: The Robin). I've been in the venue..to see Jim Lea (from the mighty Slade). Thinks: 'bout time I added it to 'Live Music' on 45worlds (Will do, sometime this week).

Thanks Charlie;
...... so I guess this place has no link to The Robin Hood (Robin 1) over in Brierley Hill. Then why did the title Robin 2 arise?; and why does the suffix (Robin 1) get accepted there?

Hi Rocket,
Yes it did have links to the Robin over in Brierley Hill, in the West Midlands. That was why the later, new venue in Bilston was originally called Robin 2. The first Robin (in Brierley Hill) closed in 2003 but I don't know when the club in Bilston changed its name to just 'The Robin'.

Hi Mods, can you please change this venue to 'The Robin' (not Robin 2 these days). I was in the venue a few days ago, checked..and it's definitely called The Robin now.

Here's a link to their official website.

I see that all 232 entries for The Robin 2 have been changed to The Robin and it's as if there was never a venue called The Robin 2.
Surely the correct action would have been to mark The Robin 2 venue as Closed and create a new venue for The Robin. There are plenty of precedents for this (e.g. in the UK, Academies which became Carling Academies and then O2 Academies).

The next step would be to identify when the name change occurred and ensure as best as possible that gig entries are placed under the correct venue name i.e. the name of the venue at the time the gig took place.
A quick look at Google Streetview puts the change somewhere between August 2018 and May 2019. So currently there are 5 gigs which fall into the gray area between those 2 dates but 188 which should still be listed as The Robin 2 and 39 listed as The Robin.

I'm happy to put a note in the venue biographies if the changes are made.

Yes, I'd think your suggestion would be a good idea Neil.

Kudos rustie, could not have put it better myself. Probably why I didn't.

Though I don't know where to see superceded Streetview, we do have flyer images posted showing both Robin 2 and Robin late in Oct 21. I suggest the change could have been during -- da da dah - Lockdown; plenty of time to change signage, promotion items etc.

As I said elsewhere, the incorrect name used by promoters etc, after a change does muddy the clarity a lot. I do think a direct call to a venue, however long since a change, may give a slightly more authorative change over date.

Definitely earlier than lockdown - I've had a look at The Robin's facebook account and most of the photos are promoter posters but there's one dated March 2019 which shows the new external signage. There are other "in-house" photos from October /November 2018 which have The Robin as the logo rather than The Robin 2 but at the same time the text of various posts in October / November 2018 seem to use both versions of the name interchangeably.
For what it's worth I would estimate the name change happened between mid-October to mid-November 2018 but I stress that's just my opinion...

As I suggested here, and others seem to agree, can we have The Robin 2 restored as a venue please and the nearly 200 shows which were correctly listed under that name put back?
