Additions needed to this list!
I based its creation on the CD series This Record is Not to Be Broadcast Vol1 and 2 issued by Fantastic Voyage.
Obviously -- links to UK issues would be better than others
The complete CD track list is at:

Yes, wonderful, and best of all is that you found the 'reasons' why they were banned
Lewd, suggestive, blasphemous come as no surprise, but "unacceptable performance" seems a criterion worthy of much wider application, but it seems to have dropped out of use ;-)

Actually, I think that's what Radio 1 now uses to determine what makes up its playlist!

No additions that I am aware of , a few notes though.
I would have thought anything by Norman Long would meet the banning criteria.
I think Don't Let s Be Beastly To The Germans (Noel Coward) Is great , as is just about anything of his wordplay and patter.
Rum And Coca-Cola, the BBC never bothered to realise ( did the Andrews Sisters ? ) other undertones of the lyrics.
Deck Of Cards, It Is No Secret , and St. Therese Of The Roses are all truly dreadful tunes anyway.
Petula Clark was on Radio 2 Jools Holland last night , I wonder if she realised she had a banned tune?

There's a vinyl LP that crops up fairly often in secondhand record shops that collects similar songs. I don't own it but I'm pretty sure it includes Or Anything Else I've Got by Randolph Sutton. I haven't posted my copy (or the vast majority of my 78s) because work keeps getting in the way, but I did post it to YouTube ages ago and that's here . Suggestive is probably the word.

Not sure if Norman Long's We Can't Let You Broadcast That on Columbia DB 1216 was banned or not, but it certainly must have been looked upon with a 'we are not amused' sort of smirk.
Noel Coward's "Don't Lets Be Beastly to the German" on HMV B 9336 was not banned upon release in 1943, because of who Coward was (a superstar!). It was however banned in 1958 because the BBC really want all to be nice to the Germans

Added the Bevs and Norman Long's goodies.
I quite like Norman. He's fun.
As to the Bevs, I think its cool the way they satirised their supposed squeaky clean image -- 1950s girl punks!Edited by Jock_Girl on 31st May 2013, 4:55 PM
