Hi, I know we're not meant to buy or sell but please could I ask if anyone has anything on the Topic label in the way of 78rpm records. I've been working on the discography for years and would like to try and gather together an archive. I'll willingly take anything on the label but still have about 50 that I don't have.

I've just been looking at my only Topic catalogue, the Topic Catalogue of Recorded Folkmusic, 1978, where in the introduction I see mention of several fomats: 78s, EPs, 12" 10" and 8" LPs, and cassettes (albums)
Later there is mention of reissues of 78s issued by other labels, so there may be useful details of older 78s in the Topic compilation notes
"The legacy of traditional music on 78s has been revealed on numerous reissues, ranging from the uilllean piping of Leo Rowsome to the urban-trditional music of Bob Smith's Ideal Band, the fiddle treasury of Scott Skinner, and the exciting diversity of Irish-American music between the wars (12T364-7)"
12T364 Hugh Gillespie: Classical Recordings of Irish Traditional Fiddle Music (1937-39)
12T365 Flanagan Brothers: An Irish Delight
12T
12T366 Dan Sullivan's Shamrock Band
12T367 John McGettigan

Yes all the 12 LPs you've mentioned here were reissues of 78rpm records. There are lots in the catalogue such as the two Music Hall LPs that Tony Barker issued via Topic and the Billy Bennett and Gus Elen LPs as well as the Irish-American and Scottish 78s you talk about. On Trailer (Bill Leader's label) there were also a series of John J. Kimmel 78s issued on 12" vinyl. None of these have anything to do with the Topic issued 78s which were sometimes Russian or Chinese records repressed under the Topic imprint.
Any suggestions on who to give some very old Topic memorabilia to? When sorting though my father-in-laws attic we found a catalogue of all the original vinyl records and we would like this to go to a good home.
The records we would sell privately.
Thank you in advance.
