I've just mentioned it in Notes on the ones I've done. Seems adequate.

I've always differentiated between package types, partly as I store them differently.

Personally, I think an extra "Package type" field which allowed a drop-down choice would be useful, from:

- Slim Jewel
- Std Jewel
- Digipak
- Card
- Plastic wallet

At the moment I note package type in the notes field for all CDs that I add, but a specific field would be better.

I'm not sure if a specific field would make a big difference.

The good thing about having it as free text in notes is that it's adaptable. No matter how many catagories we would provide there will always be some fancy package that doesn't really fit - like this.

Another thing to consider is that we want to make it as easy as possible for the general music fan to add their collection to the database. Some folks wouldn't actually know what Jewel case or digipak meant (or at least they may be called different things in different countries) - I had many record shop years of trying to expain to tourists what digi-pak meant!

As Dr. Doom explained

I think something in iGuide should include photos of the different types of packaging with a brief description.

iGuide really needs to be updated with much more detail aimed at how to enter
text with the do's and don't's. For instance, my ( ) vs. [ ], isn't explained.

Anyway, packaging is an important part of the release. As for the odd package
types. Why couldn't a tag of say "Unique" or "Exclusive", be used to designate one of those. The European CD1 and CD2 releases quite often came in different cases. One in a digipak the other in either a standard jewel case or slimline.

We really should consider a dropdown menu for packaging. Many members are in favor of this.

These are pretty good ideas, albeit not high priority, but perhaps something to be considered for future updates/upgrades.

A glossary would be a useful thing too, perhaps (which could tie in with the packaging question).
