What exactly is the difference between CD and CD2? I've searched the database using 'Filter CD' then chosen CD2 from the CD type list and most of the 100 results seen to be ordinary releases with 3 or 4 tracks.
OK the first result, by Aqua, does actually say CDII on the front and about a dozen have a video as the last track but all the rest seem like regular discs.
Normally part two was released a week after part one this helped the artist/record company to make more money and to get the song an higher chart position.

that all works well for most releases - however some CD singles - e.g. House Of Love "Beatles And The Stones" had three CDs, as did Erasure's "Crackers International".
Mute Records often had 3 CD singles - the first having the prefix CD, the 2nd one LCD, and the third XLCD - Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" single was released in this way.
Another way it happened was for the first two of the set being CDs and the third one of the set a DVD single
Once the chart people clamped down on the number of formats, then this calmed down a bit
The one problem with this is inconsistency. Where the Mute examples aren't necessarily labelled CD2 and CD3 etc, there's little difference in the format to those that are labelled in this way.
I've only ever added CD2 or CD3 to CDs where this is clearly marked somewhere on the sleeve or disc.

The simple answer is, if unsure, add them as "CD". We can always change them later. I've changed quite a few already where it has become apparent at a later date that they are CD2 or even CD3 in some cases.
A minor issue, on the whole, and nothing to worry about unduly. If something goes on as CD when it should be 2 or 3 then it will get picked up, eventually.
