Nancy Barrett - Biography

Nancy Barrett

Born: October 5, 1943; Shreveport, Louisiana USA. Grew-up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma (USA) with: her parents and a younger sister, Martha. Studied chemistry at Baylor U. (Texas; 1960-1962); then majored in Theatre when she transferred to U.C.L.A. (1962-1964). Came to NYC in Winter '64 and appeared in various Off-Broadway plays. First big break was later in 1965: as part of the chorus in the NYC production of Leslie Bricusse's adaptation musical of Dickens' novel "PICKWICK". Of course, national recognition came during her five-year stint on the television cult genré soap opera "DARK SHADOWS" beginning in June of 1966 and ending in April 1971; over the time of which she appeared in 412 episodes (starting with episode two and lasting until the final one, 1245) and played seven characters. Appeared in BOTH of the original DARK SHADOWS' spin-off movies. More-or-less retired from full-time acting once DS ended...except for the occasional NYC regional Theatre or soap opera appearance. Married four times: Ralph Pine (1964-1966); David Ford (1967-1969); Harold Kaplan (1978-2004); Stuart Leichter (2007-2015). Stunning and very cultured woman, indeed, with a kinetic acting presence. Shame she didn't do more.
