Notes

After filming the show's first season and the first three episodes of its second, John Ritter died after being hospitalized during a rehearsal. The series entered a production hiatus and changed focus to chronicling the family dealing with the sudden loss of their father, beginning with a series of episodes filmed without a studio audience.

After Ritter's final episode aired, the series title was shortened to 8 Simple Rules and the show continued for a third season.
