Notes

Extremely popular American remake of the UK series Pop Idol, with Simon Cowell from the UK series carrying over for much of the US series run. One of many international adaptations of the Pop Idol format and the most well-known. A number of musical and acting careers were launched by this series, even among performers who were eliminated from competition. Examples include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, and Jordin Sparks.

For several seasons the series included a special charity fund-raiser edition called Idol Gives Back. A total of 15 seasons were produced.
