Comedy-drama soap opera with elements of fantasy due to the series being narrated by a deceased character and later episodes being set several years into the (then-) future.

Several international adaptations have been produced for Argentina, Colombia/Ecuador, Brazil, Turkey, and Nigeria.

One of the only US series to be remade for non-English-speaking audiences within the US itself, with a Spanish-language version titled Amas de Casa Desesperadas broadcast on Univision in 2008.

Devious Maids was conceived as a spin-off of Desperate Housewives and one of its characters appeared on the parent series a year before the show debuted. A series of commercials for Sprint titled Another Desperate Housewife were produced during the 2009-2010 season; although they were ads they also doubled as canonical mini-episodes featuring a different group of characters in the show's universe.
