Notes

Scottish-produced BBC medical drama based upon the A.J. Cronin novels. Eight series were produced for the BBC, but due to the network's policy of wiping old episodes, only about 70 of the more than 190 produced still exist. Toward the end of the series, in 1970, BBC Radio launched a radio version of the series with many of the same cast members; a number of episodes were based upon now-lost TV episodes. The radio series ran until 1978, with a few additional episodes (with new cast members) recorded in 2001-2002.

Followed in the 1990s by another series adapting the novels, Doctor Finlay.
