Preceded by a pilot TV movie, Too Many Suspects, in March 1975.

Set in the late 1940s, this series is based upon the long-running detective novel series. A unique aspect of the show is that prior to the final act of each episode, Hutton would break the fourth wall and directly address the viewer, who was encouraged to try and solve the "whodunnit" mystery that had just played out before Queen gave his solution in the epilogue.

Only one season aired, but it has since become a cult classic, frequently rerun on cable TV. Some home video releases extend the title to Ellery Queen Mysteries.
