TV Series
Notes Broadcast in the fall of 1946 on the DuMont network, Faraway Hill stands as the first televised soap opera series (and one of the first scripted drama series with continuing characters) to air on US network TV. (The Guiding Light predates Faraway Hill by 11 years, having started on radio in the 1930s, but did not transfer the TV until the early 1950s.) No episodes or footage survives of this series, though some still images (such as the title screen) do and have been circulated online. In 2013 author James A. Richards launched a series of novels based upon Faraway Hill, but updated to the modern day.
