Notes

Preceded by the 1959 film Gidget (with different cast members). Even though it was cancelled after only one season, ABC followed the series with two made-for-TV sequel films, again with different cast members (Field in particular did not return for either): Gidget Grows Up (1969) - which was actually a pilot for a potential revival series - and Gidget Gets Married (1972). A TV movie remake/updating of the concept, Gidget's Summer Reunion, aired in 1985, with Caryn Richman in the lead role; it led to the 1986-88 series The New Gidget.
