Notes

Preceded by two TV movies: The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler. Although the series carried the Night Stalker subtitle the name referred to the serial killer of the original movie, not the Kolchak character. Only one season was produced before it was cancelled, reportedly due to McGavin quitting.

A remake series aired in 2005.

Some sources claim the first few episodes aired under the shorter title, "The Night Stalker", but had the longer title applied for syndication. This has not been confirmed.

Often cited as one of the inspirations for The X-Files.
