TV Series
Notes After his music video special Elephant Parts won the first Grammy in the Music Video category, Nes was approached to turn in into a television series. The first episode was a stand-alone special which aired on March 7, 1985. Television Parts was a mix of music videos combined with sketches and commercial parodies. The series premiered on June 14, 1985. Former band mate Micky Dolenz directed many parts of the show. Many of the shows sketches had guests stars before they made their big breaks including Ed Begley, Jr., Rosanne Cash, Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, and Garry Shandling. Whoopi and Nes remained friends and he appeared in a cameo in her movie Burglar. Shandling’s whose appearance laid the foundation for The Gerry Shandling Show. The series was much ahead of its time and was canceled after just 5 episodes. The final episode ran for 90 minutes and was broadcasted in the Saturday Night Live time slot. Speaking of SNL, one of the series sequences, “Deep Thoughts by Jack Handry” " was later picked up by Saturday Night Live in 1991. The series was two separate home video releases on VHS and Betamax, Television Parts Home Companion (1985) Dr. Duck's Super Secret All-Purpose Sauce (1986). Now many of the clips of the show can be seen on the Michael Nesmith's Videoranch YouTube channel. Comments and Reviews
